One of the most significant achievements in addressing sepsis, driven by consumer advocacy, took place on World Sepsis Day 2024. On 11 September the SEPSIS Act was recently introduced into the U.S. Senate.
The introduction of the bill was a result of a collaborative effort led by END SEPSIS (The Rory Staunton Foundation) in partnership with consumers, patient advocates, clinicians, and healthcare agencies.
The SEPSIS Act focuses on several key areas:
- Education Campaigns: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will lead campaigns to educate healthcare providers on best practices for sepsis management.
- Data Collection: Improved data collection on pediatric sepsis and sharing information with other health agencies.
- Outcome Measures: Development and implementation of sepsis outcome measures.
- Recognition Programs: Voluntary recognition for hospitals that maintain or improve their sepsis programs.
